Leopards are spectacular hunters! Not only are they quite fast and can run up to 58km/h, but are also famous for their incredible agility and strength to climb trees while dragging a kill that is sometimes heavier than their own body weight. Read about one particularly patient leopard who didn’t quite get the catch she was after.
Leopards are capable of carrying animals heavier than themselves and will often drag their prey into the fork of a tree several metres off the ground. This tree "lardering" protects the carcass against scavengers and allows a few days of undisturbed feeding.
The leopard's climbing ability sets it apart from the other big cats and has made it the most successful of the group as far as its numbers in the wild. Although leopards in Asia are critically endangered, the African leopard is quite numerous and estimates are that there are close to 500,000 wild leopards in existence.
Leopards are astoundingly strong. They are pound for pound the strongest of the big cats.This means if all the big cats where the same size and weight, the leopard would be the strongest. After the lion, it is the next-biggest African cat with an average body mass of between 60kg and 70kg, standing about two-thirds of a metre tall at the shoulder.
Leopard represents strength, elegant and ambitions. In our life, there’s always will have ups and downs, but also we can live as a leopard who is always chasing their goals and make it happen. Using your vision live a wonderful life!
